Dev Diary #1: Welcome to Trigaea - a Mysterious, Hostile World

Greetings, and welcome to the first Trigaea dev diary!

For starters, what is Trigaea? Trigaea is an post-apocalyptic sci-fi game about the cost of survival, memories, and being human(e). The game itself is half interactive fiction, half RPG exploration/combat.

Trigaea took three years of work to put together, which fits in rather well with the name (Tri = three).

Some Game Highlights:

  • Genetic Upgrade System: Splice yourself with non-human, robot or alien parts to survive the harsh world of Trigaea.
  • Slay or Subdue: Lethal and non-lethal options for every encounter, even boss fights. Subdue, fight, or talk it out.
  • Multiple Gender/Orientation Options: Memories of romance (or friendship) linger with you still. How much have you lost?
  • 200k+ Words: A rich sci-fi story with multiple paths. Unlock memory scenes to learn who you are and what is going on.
  • Detailed RPG Combat / Survival: Survive as long as you can in a hostile world. Live. Die. Repeat. Unique enemy AI, moves, and resistances.
  • 12 Endings: Choose the fate of your species. How far would you go to save humanity - or is it not worth saving?

It’s worth mentioning that while the game is largely text-based - and that’s a deal breaker for some - it does have stunning backgrounds, great music and SFX.

While this is my first dev diary on the game, Trigaea itself is roughly 90% complete. I wanted to get it to a near-complete state before I shared it with others. So many people start out with the intention of making a game and don’t follow through - I wanted people to know this is a concrete thing that will exist.

I’ll be doing some more of these dev diaries to delve more into Trigaea, how I made it, and other related topics.

To keep up to date with this project, please follow my Itch.io page. Not only is it the best way to learn about any updates or posts, it gives me a warm feeling every time I see a new follower.

Until my next post!
